Leap To A Manger (A Parody of Lips of an Angel by Hinder)

CHRIST WAS BORN TODAY!

No, not really. I was. Not physically but spiritually. Not specifically today but it was around this time of year that I got converted (Praise be to God). And I owe my spiritual birth to the work of Christ. If Christ wasn't born in a manger, I wouldn't be born in his kingdom.

I think that's theologically true but, honestly, it just happened that I finished this parody today. So... Merry Christmas! LOL.

Leap To A Manger

A parody of "Lips of an Angel" by Hinder

Can we love a worm that we'll incarnate?
It's kinda how he reached us out
Have we heard God lying in a mere bed of hay?
Christ condescended though the gap is too wide
Well, the heaven's grandest rooms
Are still unfit for His booth
Who'd guess He'll even greatly move down?

Chorus 1:
He really took no hero's choice
Dwelling with men
And cows and sheep
Coming down as babe on a manger
There is no word to state this leap
This child got the whole world in His hands
The God who made us now is a creature
Quantum leap to a manger

He probably was crying that night
And, yes, he peed and pooped too
His mama knows the Boy she carries
Is God of Might
Truth is that He carries her through

Well, the heavens can't fathom
How God our flesh has assumed
Who'd guess He'll even greatly move down?

Chorus 2:
He really took the shameful course
Dwelling with men
In humble feat
Coming down as babe in a manger
There is no earthling this unique
Think how did God unmixedly unite
Our finite nature and divine nature
In him who sleeps in a manger

Chorus 3:
It's really good news He was born
Left his domain
Grace sounds so sweet
Coming down as babe in a manger
There's a great gulf that He just leaped
This child who was born that He may die
The God who reigns above, for His people,
Had to leap to a manger

Can we love a worm that we'll incarnate?

Parody: Thessalonians

Thessalonians
(a parody of Thousand Miles by Vanessa Carlton)
Acts 2:9-11; Jn. 14:1-4; 1 Thess. 4:13-18; 1 Cor. 15:51-53

Making Your way back home
Taken up
With a cloud
And then You're gone

Stunning angels appeared
They're saying someday
In the same way
You'll come back

And when it's due
time, we'll meet You
The world will wonder

We'll all be caught
Up in the sky
When You come down
With a great cry
Cause we hope, like the Thessalonians,
To someday be with You for life

There are many deists
They're deriding You
And they utter that You desert us coldly

Yet You prepare our home
Where we all belong
Living in Your mansions we would be

So just where You
are, we're there too
With you forever

We'll all be caught
Up in the sky
Alive Christians
And ones who died, oh
Chapter four of First Thessalonians
Says we would all see You arrive

And come, come with an archangel's voice,
(with) a sound of trumpet of Yahweh,
(with) a loud command, oh we implore
Come now Lord.

There in mid-air's a throng
From all tribes
And all tongues
And it's awesome

Still we'll greatly be thrilled
Just seeing Your face
Seeing Your flesh
Glorified

And I believe You
And I still wait to
Behold that wonder

We'll be transformed
In blink of an eye
Last trumpet sounds
The dead will rise
Cause we hope, like the Thessalonians,
To someday just see You

We'll all be caught
Up in the sky
When You come down
We all will fly
Cause we hope, like the Thessalonians,
To someday be with You
To someday behold You for life

Parody: You're My Joy

You're My Joy
(a parody of "Overjoyed" by Stevie Wonder)
Psalm 73:25-26; Psalm 16:11; Jer. 2:13, etc.

Over time, I've been hoarding up treasures I love
Just to know that they never render satisfaction
Till I found the Pearl I searched all my days
Now I've got to throw my treasures away

All the gifts, which You give us, are perfect and good
But You are Your best gift, 'twas of You I've been dreaming
The heaven I want would look like a hell
Without God the One who makes heaven well

Chorus:
For whom have I in heaven but You?
And on earth, too,
There is nothing
That I desire beside you
And even though my flesh and heart grow weak
You're my heart's strength
You're my Joy and you're mine 'ternally

My vile heart had me shamefully turn the Fount down
Just to find, I hewed broken cisterns [that] can't hold water
I've now found out that without the Divine
The joy that I sought can never be mine

"God is not a tool for finding pleasure. God is not the shovel, so to speak, with which we dig for buried jewels. God is Himself the treasure. The Christian's pursuit of happiness is consummated when we find in God our all in all. He and He alone is our exceeding great reward. He is not a means to a higher end. He is the end."

Parody: Grace is for You

Grace is for You
(a parody of "Crazy for You" by Spongecola)

I.
Staying strong 'gainst demonic flaks [Eph. 6:12]
Struggling killing our own flesh's wants [1 Pet. 2:11]
Truly, too, the world deceives by charm [1Jn. 2:15; Jas. 4:4]

God sees you through your soul's warfare [1 Pet. 5:10]
Cast your care to Him for He cares [1 Pet. 5:7]
Satan's close but still God shows a way [1 Pet. 5:8]

Out of trials we face, in fact [1 Cor. 10:13]

Chorus 1:
God's grace is for you
Humbly ask and you'll know it's true [Mt. 7:7]
God never grants us any trial which
We can't pass through, just flee to His embrace [1 Cor. 10:13]
God's grace is for you

II.

Are you tired of deceitful hearts?
Are you buffled in where you are?
Are you worried of what the future holds?

Call Him now ere you begin to move
He'll give you grace and greatly work in you
Soon we would receive God's promised crown [Jas. 1:12]
That's when the testing's done, you see [Rom. 16:20]

Chorus 2:
God's grace is for you
Trust in Christ, He's faithful and true [Rev. 19:11]
God never grants us any trials strange
[1 Cor. 10:13]
There's no brand new, Christ face them in the flesh

So He sympathizes [Heb. 4:15]

Chorus 3:
And so God's grace is for you
You can have God's grace through and through

From our worst days unto our nicest days
Christ's grace is full, just flee to his embrace [Jn. 1:14]
God's grace is for you

In Paul's greetings too [Rom. 1:7; 1 Cor. 1:3; Gal. 1:3; Eph. 1:2; etc.]
God's grace is for you
John 1:16 too
"grace upon grace" is for you
Ephesians 1 and 2
Long before grace is for you
God's grace is for you

"Your worst days are never so bad that you are beyond the reach of God's grace. And your best days are never so good that you are beyond the need of God's grace." (Jerry Bridges)

Parody: Reformists

Reformist
(a parody of "Pyramid" by Charice feat. Iyaz)

I.
Shan't we live a life of reformist?
And stand like Luther for a godly end
Let's no more waste another year bestowed
A just, Godward change let's pursue

This song's
Heavy but true love it's from
Scripture is the ground we've known
And cry of it is Church reform
Well, just like Wesley's Holy Club

From pulpit to the Sunday school
Study his Word hard, it's gold
Changing the minutest fault
Now here are the concerns I know:

The sheep lack shepherds
The goats invade us
Wolves and thieves do break away our fold

Chorus:
Reformist, let's build our church on solid Rock
Beliefs and lives be biblical
Together shout and fight
(shout and fight, brethren)
(shout and fight now)
Like a reformist

And let's refrain from all false doctrines
With great fervor, just keep reforming
For God's glory displayed
Let's be reformists

Like a reformist, Like a reformist, hey (3x)

II.
Lord, never ever leave us cold
We don't want the Church destroyed
We're sorry if we've long ignored
Your glorious majesty

And, brethren, see the rod was gone
Look how frail Church life becomes
Sin-tolerating ways are wrong
And watered-down theology

Heretics can shake us
Factions can break us
Politics can take away our light

(Repeat Chorus)

Bridge:

Let's be reformists, now l'mma mention:
Calvin, Zwingli, Edwards, Whitefield, and John Newton
Even Puritans, Charles Spurgeon
They must the ones to imitate, hey

Fools, don't be lax, God's a consuming fire
Let's admonish one another, with our Bibles and with love
Reformation and revival
Must spark or our children would suffer

Reformist, keep reforming
(Like a reformist, Like a reformist)
Whoa
(Like a reformist, Like a reformist)

(Repeat Chorus 2x)

Like a reformist, Like a reformist, hey (3x)
Reformist

--------------------------------------

"It is today as it was in the Reformers' days.  Decision is needed.  Here is the day for the man, where is the man for the day?  We who have had the gospel passed to us by martyr hands dare not trifle with it, nor sit by and hear it denied by traitor, who pretend to love it, but inwardly abhor every line of it...Look you, sirs, there are ages yet to come.  If the Lord does not speedily appear, there will come another generation, and another, and all these generations will be tainted and injured if we are not faithful to God and to His truth today.  We have come to a turning-point in the road.  If we turn to the right, mayhap our children and our children's children will go that way; but if we turn to the left, generations yet unborn will curse our names for having been unfaithful to God and to His Word." The Dung and The Treasure

"Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as dung, in order that I may gain Christ" (Philippians 3:8)

Though the title is ugly, I love the message of this parody. Its message is based on Philippians 3:4-12. It was desiringGod's Sermon Jam entitled "Treasuring Him" (click here for the video) that inspired me to write this.

Dung
(A Parody of "Numb" by Linkin Park)

I.
I, Paul, have been circumcised the eight day
Benjamite descent of our Hebraic race
And in law, was a strict Pharisee
Zealous persecutor, In righteousness was pure
(All that I have gain for Christ now I deem as loss, though)
Indeed I count all things loss for Christ's surpassing value
(For me to know my Lord, I suffered the loss of all)

Chorus 1:
All things I count as dung
That Christ I may gain
And in Him be found
So that I might wear
Not my righteousness
Which is from the law
But which is through faith
In Christ, my treasure

II.
I have seen I was gladdened easily
Holding too tightly on pitiful pleasures
Cause the One Being who can satisfy me
Is none else than Christ, Him we must pursue
(Don't think I abandon all things for a vacuum)
What I do is a trade for a superior pleasure
(And don't think to ignore won't bring danger to your soul)
Cause to price Him less than things is to waste life itself!

Chorus 2:
All things I count as dung
That I may know Him
His resurrection's power
And His sufferings' share
Conformed to His death
I'd then be raised too
And enjoy being
with Christ, my treasure

Bridge:
And I know I'm not yet that perfect too
But I go pressing on to lay hold what Christ laid hold for me also

Chorus 3:
All things I count as dung
When to Him compared
Money, house, foods, jobs,
Clothes, looks, toys, talents,
Sex, friends, families
All God gave us to
In a way make plain
They're not our treasures

All things are just dung
Christ is priceless Jewel
The only Being worthy of all glory
All things are just dung
Christ is priceless Jewel
The only Being who can satisfy me

-----
"How does Paul make Christ look great? Answer: By experiencing Christ as a treasure that everything else in his life is as nothing by comparison. I count everything... as loss in comparison with the treasure that Christ has become for me. ... The way we display the supreme worth of Jesus is by treasuring Him above all things and then making choices which make the joy we have in His supreme worth manifest. Get It. Get It. And if He is not that for you tonight, if He is not treasure for you, pray all night if you have to, that your heart would be so changed that you would now treasure Jesus above everything in your life." (John Piper)
